After many years of managing family businesses and raising three amazing daughters, Jean, and her partner Jack have emerged as artists with a focus on large scale art. From their studio in Prince William, NB, they create large pieces, often from recycled items as they are strong believers in caring for our environment through re-use of objects. Both Jean and Jack are primarily self taught in many mediums and each draws on the others strength when working on art projects. In 2017 they were selected to build two shipping container art pieces after a call for submissions by Discover Saint John and Canada 150. They won the competition with a used shipping container converted into a living plant walled building. Later the same year they were selected to create four of the ten Salmon when a call for artists went out for a competition for the Saint John Salmon Run, a sculptural walking tour in uptown Saint John.
In 2018 they were again awarded two of the ten Salmon to adorn for Salmon Run 2.0 New Brunswick wide competition. They were also awarded an ArtsNB prize for an emerging artist and in 2019 ArtsNB funded them to explore creating a large metal sculpture. They were also selected to create a Salmon for the 2019 Salmon Run. In the same year they were commissioned by CasinoNB to create a large piece for their lobby. In 2021 an art installation called Fish Wish was commissioned by the City of Fredericton for the square in front of city hall.
2022 has been an exciting year with the awarding of two major prizes, one from ArtsNB to create “Oil Lanterns” and the art installation of “Ferns and Fiddleheads” at the Fredericton Botanical Gardens. Please contact Jean to discuss a commissioned piece, or to make a purchase.
